Floor polishing Practices
The potential result
Floor polishing is the application of polish on this floor in order to have the floor look shining for long period of time. You have looked at a floor and think that the floor is wet. The shine on the floor due to the polish is creating that illusion. It is recommended to have floor polished at reception areas. This is in order to show a good image.
Initial preparations
Floor polishing is a rewarding task. At the end of the task you can see straight away the bright and shiny result of your hard work. It goes without saying that the floor it requires an experience cleaner or a floor man to polish a surface and have an even and smooth layer. This smooth layer only need a small maintenance time. The maintenance is only damp mopping or spot mopping. Floor polishing is therefore a good time saving cleaning system.
The operation
Before floor polishing, take care of the health and safety preparations. This means that the wet warning signs have to be set up near exits or entrances. The area has to be
ventilated. The floor has to be swept properly. Edges and corners of the floor have to be checked and take the appropriate actions. These actions could include vacuuming or scrapping or both. The floor has to be mopped. This will ensure that the applicator of the floor polishing liquid stays clean. The best and cheapest applicator is a clean mop only used for the sole purpose of floor polishing. Any chewing gum have to be removed and once the floor looks clean and gives a clean feeling, than the floor polishing can begin. The manufacturer’s instructions of the floor polishing
solution have to be read. The best method is to start by floor polishing the corners and edges. This is because human being by nature is very lazy. These parts of the floor will be missed or not properly waxed when floor polishing starts from the main surface. The next step is to apply the polish on remaining part of the floor. One method of floor polishing is to put the polish in a bucket and use a mop to apply the polish on the floor . The other method is to pour the polish from the container directly to the floor. I recommend the combination of the two system. The former method is used when the floor polishing start because the floor is hard and absorbs wet liquid easily. A very wet mop is therefore necessary to cover the whole floor. When that first layer is dry, the second
coat can be applied by pouring the polish on the floor and mop it. This is the latter method. The amount of floor polishing solution poured on the foor should be just enough to cover 1.5 meter square at a time. This will make the floor shines better because the polish used is from the container and does not carry any dirt. In order to avoid missing any area, it is best to do the floor polishing along the length of the room for the first coat. The second coat of floor polishing should than be applied following the width of the room. It is always good to look around you and check your work and have a good work plan in mind.
